Pine Country Restaurant - Williams - Arizona

After dropping off Gourmet Pigs' friend at the airport in Flagstaff, Arizona, we continued our way further west and stopped off for lunch in the town of Williams, just outside of Grand Canyon National Park.

We drove around a bit to see what struck our fancy and the "homemade pies" sign lured me into Pine Country Restaurant.

Pies!

I love pie.

Kitschy country decor.

The barley soup that came with my meal.

I ordered a hot turkey sandwich, $7.99, open-faced covered in gravy, served with mashed potatoes, a vegetable, and a side of cranberry sauce. Just OK. Turkey slices were too thin and few, but standard American restaurant fare.

Gourmet Pigs got the fresh veggie sandwich, $6.99, La Baccia bread, basil pesto, zucchini, carrots, green leaf lettuce, avocado, celery, tomato. It seemed bland to me, but she wanted some veggies to off-set all the deep-fried sopaipillas she had been eating for weeks in New Mexico.

Since the pies were advertised as made fresh every day, we had to get one. Each slice is $4.49. We asked the waiter what he recommended and he gave us this chocolate pudding chocolate mousse Oreo pie.

It was huge!

A decadent end to an OK meal.

Now onward to the Grand Canyon!

  2. Jin,
It was pretty good, and not too sweet, which I was worried about with all the Oreos and chocolate.
