Silver Lake Wine - Los Angeles (Silver Lake)

Silver Lake Wine - Los Angeles (Silver Lake) 1

I'm sooo not hip. Three years ago, I read Jeni of Oishii Eats' posts about Silver Lake Wine's various tastings and thought they sounded interesting. HC of LA and OC Foodventures likes their low-key Monday tastings. Aaron of Destination Eats has blogged about the Thursday tastings when Let's Be Frank hot dogs are parked in front of the store. Mattatouille is now hosting blogger wine tastings there.

A few months back we (I, Gourmet Pigs, her college friend, and Danny of Kung Food Panda) started the celebration of her passing her exams at Indo Kitchen - Alhambra. We then moved to Silver Lake Wine for drinks.

A nice space with lots of wine. ;)

Gourmet Pigs went straight to the fridge and grabbed an $18 bottle of "The Black Chook," a sparkling shiraz that had a lovely effervescence to my favorite type of red wine.

We moved on to other bottles, but I still liked the sparkling shiraz most.

More wine.

We were later joined by Mattatouille and Christine of Folie a ChoiSauce and two of Gourmet Pigs's other friends.

By the time we were ready to move on to Tiki-Ti, we had downed three or four bottles of wine. Splitting the bill? About $5 apiece. Totally a great deal to sample a variety of wines in a casual atmosphere. If you're interested in the different tastings and how the atmosphere varies at each one, click on the above links to what other bloggers have posted. As for me, I'm more interested in the store aspect ie. great selection of wines at reasonable prices.

I told my childhood friend about The Black Chook since she loves shiraz too. She came over one night for some girl talk with a bottle of the sparkling shiraz. It went perfectly with Osso Bucco (Italian Braised Beef Shanks).

  1. Sometimes the simple posts are the ones that get me salivating most. I'll hopefully be at the tasting tonight...and also hoping to check out the dosa truck in front!

  2. It's been a more than a year since the first blog my blog?!? That went fast.

Like all the placement of the wine bottles here! So nicely organized in various ways :).

  3. glad you liked this place. you should come to one of our tastings some time! I'll let you know once I get back Asia.

  4. Coffee Travails,
Haha. Kinda funny to think someone would salivate over a wine post!

Oh man, I should play Blog My Blog again. Haven't done that in a long while.

It's all good. I'm not much of an instructional wine tasting type of gal. I just like to sip and hang with friends.
