Horsetail Falls (Winter) - Columbia River Gorge - Oregon

3 Horsetail Falls (Winter) - Columbia River Gorge - Oregon 1

After lunch at Bunk Sandwiches - Portland, we were ready to go "hike" the waterfalls. I say hiking loosely because most of the waterfalls are viewable from the Historic Columbia River Highway so it was really just pulling over the side of the road, snapping photos, and then onward to the next waterfall.

I've blogged Horsetail Falls before, but that was in early September and mid-March is very different with the trees still mostly bare.

With a 30 percent chance of rain that day, versus 50 percent for the rest of our stay, the weather was typical drizzly Oregon.

I usually start off at Horsetail Falls because it's the first one after the Multnomah Falls exit in which I can circle back to take the meandering old highway route to access all the other waterfalls.

I saw these women exiting the parking area with cameras in tow and wondered what they were going to photograph. Kinda fun to see a photo shoot in session.

The drizzle and the spray from the waterfall was quite a wet combo.

One last fun shot of the photo session.

Then it was time to move on to the next waterfall.

The weather, the wetness, the waterfall just reminded me of what I miss about Oregon.

  3. CC,
Hmm. Were you driving the old highway? Even going from west to east, you'd still see Wahkeena and Shepperd's Dell right off the old freeway. My problem with Shepperd's Dell is that it comes up so quick and there's so little parking that when I do see it, I can't turn back because of the bridge. But, I managed to stop this time! Whoohoo!

Horsetail is on the other side of Multnomah Falls so if you stop at the big one, then you'd miss it.
