Spaghetti and Meatballs

Not that I think anyone really needs a recipe for spaghetti and meatballs. Or maybe you do?

Someone searched repeatedly on the blog for it. I can only assume you want my version?

Very well then.

Spaghetti and Meatballs 1

Spaghetti and Meatballs

For about 4 to 6 servings, you'll need:

For about 10 large meatballs:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 onion, finely diced
1 egg
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
2 tblsp fresh basil, finely chopped

Optional: If you don't have basil, I've also substituted with dill for a different flavor profile.

For the sauce:
1 onion, finely diced
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 24-oz jar spaghetti sauce of your choice

and of course,

1-lb package of spaghetti noodles

In a bowl, combine 1 lb ground beef, 1/2 lb ground pork, 1 cup bread crumbs, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1 onion, finely diced, 1 egg, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp ground black pepper, and 2 tblsp fresh basil, finely chopped. For bread crumbs, I usually grind up a few pieces of bread in the food processor. No need to buy special bread crumbs.

Thoroughly mix the meatball ingredients. Then oil your hands and shape into about 2- to 2 1/2-inch meatballs.

Drizzle some olive oil into a pan, and on medium-high heat, pan-fry until meatballs are browned on all sides. Then set aside.

Drizzle some more oil and add the diced onion and minced garlic. Saute until golden. Then pour in the jar of pasta sauce, adding some water into the jar to get the last of the sauce out.

Add the meatballs back in. Lightly cover the pan and let simmer on medium-low for about 15 minutes.

Spaghetti and Meatballs 4

Boil the spaghetti noodles. Drain. Serve with meatballs and sauce.

  1. This is what I like to do with jarred pasta sauce too! Even the ingredients are similar to your recipe! I just make a meat sauce though and not meatballs.

  3. ETE,
When I'm lazy, I make meat sauce. But there's something about a big round meatball that's so great sometimes.

    Cristina,
Haha! It's just spaghetti and meatballs lady! And YOU are the woman your husband deserves. You're such a great mother.
