On that previous visit, my cousins didn't arrive until several hours after we did. So we ended up going twice. Hey, who can pass up free cheese samples! :P
From upstairs, you can see how the inside of the cheese factory. Unfortunately, I'm always here on the weekends when production is closed so I have yet to see what actually happens here.
Picture taken for the blog, we went back downstairs to get in line for free cheese samples!
Fresh cheese curds.
Medium cheddar.
Colby.
Vintage white extra sharp cheddar, aged over two years. I love cheddar so this aged cheese was my favorite.
Pepper jack.
Smoked cheddar.
They gave out a lot of samples that day. Usually, there are only two or three.
Afterward, we walked through the gift shop, which included plenty of cheese, of course.
There's that wonderful vintage white extra sharp cheddar again.
Garlic chili pepper cheddar cheese. I've never seen either of these in the supermarkets.
Nor horseradish white cheddar cheese neither.
Ooh, hot habanero jack cheese.
Smoked black pepper white cheddar cheese.
And of course, Tillamook doesn't make just cheese. The creamery also makes a variety of ice cream as well.
And yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream, and butter.
And apparently fudge too.
The cafe also features grilled cheese sandwiches, but we were already full from Pacific Oyster, so just ice cream for dessert for us.
Single waffle cone of mountain huckleberry, $2.75.
Triple dip, $3.75, of Tilla-mint, wild mountain blackberry, and mint chocolate chip.
Triple dip, $3.75, of Marionberry pie, wild mountain blackberry, and Oregon strawberry.
Rootbeer float with a scoop of Tillamook mudslide, $2.50.
Don't worry, it wasn't all for me. There were five of us. :)
Stuffed with oysters and ice cream, it was time to head back to our campsite and set up the tents.

hi wc - what a very thorough post! i liked seeing all of the different varieties of cheese. too bad they don't sell those down in SoCal (or do they?). great "preview" for us!
ReplyDeleteoh. my. god. a whole post just about cheese [and assorted dairy products]!!! apparently i need to go to oregon.
ReplyDeleteHow were the ice creams? I want to try that mountain huckleberry.
ReplyDeleteAnd fresh cheese curds right at the cheese factory!
CC,
ReplyDeleteI wish I could see the production area, but I'm never here when it's open. I've never seen most of those cheeses sold anywhere else, just the regular ones.
Liz,
Haha. You're a cheese lover I take it? :)
GP,
The ice creams are good too. Like the cheeses, a lot of the ice cream flavors I've never seen sold in stores.
