Banh Mi Thit Kho Trung (Vietnamese Braised Pork and Egg Sandwich)

Banh Mi Thit Kho Trung (Vietnamese Braised Pork and Egg Sandwich) 3

I told you I was going to steal the idea of a Vietnamese braised pork and egg sandwich after having eaten one at Quan Mien Trung Vietnamese Cuisine in Rosemead, CA.

And so I did.

This is one of those brilliant ideas that I wonder why I hadn't thought of it before. Seriously, the unctuousness of braised pork with sliced hard-boiled eggs, stuffed into toasty Vietnamese French bread.

Sooo good!

For as many sandwiches as you'd like, you'll need:

Vietnamese French bread

Slice the pork thinly. Slice the hard-boiled eggs.

Stuff it into the French bread.

Nothing else needed.

  1. My mind is blown. Seriously. I love banh mi and I love thit kho trung but it never occurred to me that a combination of the two would yield such wondrous results!

Thanks for the tip AND the visuals!

  3. Wow, this sandwich has my name all over it...... Did you choose not to include the sweet pickled veggies? Either way it's been a while since I had a banh mi and I'm totally craving one now!

  4. lol this is such a crazy good concept. My grandma makes this for me for breakfast when we run out of breakfast food and all we have is left over Thit Kho Trung. GREAT GREAT Sandwich.

  5. Mmm, sounds delicious. It looks really similar to the Hokkien braised three layer pork and eggs dish my grandmother makes only we sandwich it between steamed buns. I need to try it with french bread one day. =)

  7. this looks so satisfying.

I made the classic banh mi with grilled brined pork and home made pate. This is a refreshing change.

a friend told me that asians love to put random eggs in things. i couldn't agree more. and they are divine!!!!

  8. Daniel,
I love both too and it didn't even occur to me to combine the two until I ate it at Quan Mien Trung.

    PigPig,
Oh, there's lots of variations of VNese sandwiches. :) My cousin's auntie is opening a location in London soon so you can try it there. http://monme.co.uk

    Dennis,
Yeah, I liked the meat and eggs too much to add pickles to the taste.

    David,
So? Did you end up with any leftover from your thit kho batch to make this sandwich?

    Alexis,
It's just the VNese version of red-cooked pork. Oooh! But this would be even better inside a steamed bun!

    Betty,
    Thanks!

    Katie,
Haha. Yeah, we do put eggs in steamed buns and soup and things like that!
