Star Trek: The Exhibition (Hollywood & Highland Center) - Los Angeles

Star Trek The Exhibition (Hollywood & Highland Center) - Los Angeles 1

I won a pair of tickets to see Star Trek: The Exhibition on Twitter from @HandHCenter, the Hollywood and Highland Center, when I correctly answered that the USS Enterprise 1701-D had 42 decks. No, I'm not nearly that nerdy. I had to Google the answer. Still! I won tickets! Worth about $16 each.

Of course I had to take my brother with me. Only he would truly appreciate the experience. Speaking of the experience, long ago, I got a hotel package from the Las Vegas Hilton that included two tickets to Star Trek: The Experience. Can you believe no one else in the family wanted to duke it out with us for them? :P

Anyway, The Exhibition was chock full of memorabilia that would satisfy any Trekkie.

C'mon, I'll show you.

The first thing we saw after entering was Quark's Bar. Of course, we dutifully posed for photos.

The Las Vegas Hilton package also included lunch for two, appetizer, two entrees, and dessert, at the Quark's Bar & Restaurant inside the hotel. A Klingon came by and scared lil' sis and the girls when he looked at what we were eating and declared that he liked his food RAW! Hehe. The package included game vouchers too. And two night-stay all for $136. Was that a bargain or what? Especially since Star Trek: The Experience tickets were $25 each, and sadly has since closed. :(

Anyway, I digress.

Cardassian and Borg costumes.

James T. Kirk duty uniform, circa 2269. The mustard gold color indicates a command division. Blue is science and medical, and red is engineering, technical, and security. In case you didn't know. Nerdily, I did know. :P

A history of the various Enterprises.

USS Enterprise, Yorktown Class Aircraft Carrier, Naval Registry Number CV-6 was launched in 1938 and was the most decorated vessel in World War II Battle of Midway and the Guadalcanal Campaign. Yes! It really exists!

It was replaced by USS Enterprise Nuclear Aircraft Carrier, Naval Registry Number CVN-65 which launched in 1960 and was a key player in the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War, and was the first warship to respond to the Persian Gulf after September 11, 2001. At 1,123 feet, the nuclear-powered Enterprise is the longest naval vessel in the world. All true! Is that cool or what?

Starship Enterprise NX Class Prototype, Starfleet Registry NX-01 was launched in 2151. Commanded by Jonathan Archer, the NX-class Enterprise featured a warp 5 propulsion system that was developed by his father, Henry Archer, who died before he could see his son take the helm. Its diplomatic missions led to the creation of the United Federation of Planets in 2161.

Starship Enterprise Constitution Class, Starfleet Registery NCC-1701 was launched in 2245 and commanded by James T. Kirk. It had a cruising speed of warp 6, and an emergency speed of warp 8. Weapons included phaser banks and photon torpedoes.

Starship Enterprise-A Refit Constitution Class, Starfleet Registry NCC-1701-A was originally built as the Yorktown, but was renamed when Kirk took the helm in 2286. The ship was rushed into service to deal with a hostage crisis on Nimbus III. Notable service included the Khitomer conference of 2293, which ended nearly a century of hostilities with the Klingon Empire.

Starship Enterprise-D Galaxy Class, Starfleet Registry NCC-1701-D was launched in 2364 and commanded by Jean-Luc Picard. The crew explored the Alpha and Beta Quadrants and halted the Borg Incursion of 2366. The ship was destroyed in 2371 at the planet Veridian III, but the saucer module helmed by Deanna Troi made an emergency landing with no casualties.

Starship Voyager Intrepid Class, Starfleet Registry NCC-74656, commanded by Kathryn Janeway, got swept into the Delta Quadrant when it pursued a Maquis ship into the Badlands in 2371. It spent seven years trying to get home.

Starship Enterprise-E Sovereign Class, Starfleet Registry NCC-1701-E was launched in 2372 and commanded by Picard. This Enterprise and its crew repelled the Borg Invasion of 2373, journeying to Earth's past to prevent the Borg from disrupting historical events.

OK, that's enough ship lore for now. I liked how the background suited the ships, even if they are just models.

Captain on the bridge!

What are you watching, Picard? That new Star Trek movie that doesn't go with the rest of Star Trek canon? Yeah, I don't like Spock and Uhura getting together either. Spock can't feel emotions!

I'm not feeling the Eric Bana Romulan storyline either. And where are his ridges? How are they going to incorporate that?

You can't ever get too much Picard.

Realized on the way out that I totally forgot to take a photo of this version of the Enterprise. Space Shuttle Prototype Reusable Orbital Spacecraft NASA Registry OV-101 commanded by Fred W. Haise, Jr. and Joseph H. Engle. This one is totally real too!

The bottom ship is the Phoenix Experimental Warp-Powered Spacecraft designed, built, and piloted by Zefram Cochrane in 2063 after Earth's Third World War. His historic first warp flight on April 5, 2063 caught the attention of a passing Vulcan survey ship, which led to Earth's first official contact with extraterrestrial life.

I was going to shuffle this photo back into the proper order, but then my oversight lets me end with one of my favorite quotes.

"Don't try to be a great man, just be a man and let history make its own judgments." -- Zefram Cochrane, Star Trek: The Next Generation movie, First Contact. Actually, it was Riker who said Cochrane would say it in the future.

We passed Grauman's Chinese Theater on the way out. See Freddy and Darth Vader?

And even though lil' sis bought it as a joke, I totally ordered the Star Trek T-shirt from Kellogg's Rice Krispies.
