Bon Marche Bistro/B Village Cuisine (Dim Sum) - Monterey Park (Closed)

I had written before about Bon Marche Bistro/B Village Cuisine's regular menu, but there was also a short dim sum menu. So yes, these days, you can get dim sum in so many different ways -- without pushcarts, through a take-out window, and in non-dim sum restaurants.

Most of the dim sum dishes cost between $2.90 to $4.90. They are part of the regular menu, but I wanted to keep the dim sum items on a separate post.

The simply named curry turnip for $2.90 was a large plate of pan-fried turnip cake with egg and scallions, lightly dusted with curry powder. The first time I had this was amazing. Just light, crispy, and the curry gave it a new dimension. The second time, though, the turnip cake wasn't so fresh and tasted a bit sour. But lil' sis and her best friend didn't seem to mind so we kept the plate instead of sending it back.

The har gow (Chinese shrimp dumplings) $2.90 were only supposed to have four pieces, but we got five. Score!

Shu mai (Chinese meatballs) $2.90.

Tangerine peel fish balls $3.90. The tangerine peel flavor and aroma were pretty strong. The fish balls weren't greasy at all. Light and crispy.

The most expensive dim sum item were the steamed soup dumplings, $4.90 for eight pieces.

A pretty decent amount of soup. The skins weren't too thin, but not too thick either.

Pan-fried dumplings $2.90. Juicy, crispy edges, freshly pan-fried.

Steamed chicken feet $2.90. The chicken feet skin wasn't fall-off-the-bone like at dim sum restaurants. This was a more rustic, homey version.

Pork buns $2.90 were a little dry. Probably my least-favorite item.

While I wouldn't go here specifically for the dim sum, it's a nice option to have when I'm already dining here. You can see the Bon Marche Bistro/B Village Cuisine's regular menu on my previous post.

Bon Marche Bistro/B Village Cuisine is now closed. :(

  3. Wandering Chopsticks, are you on a dim sum series binge right now? ;)

    I think I would want the curry turnip cakes most. It looks delicious and the portion is large! :)


    The XLB kind of look like Wei Chuan ones but aha, lots of places are making their XLB look more like factory made ones these days although they make them by hand.
