Carne Asada

Carne Asada

2 pounds flank or skirt steak
1 onion, diced or sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 limes or 1 lemon, juiced
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil if grilling, not necessary if pan frying
2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp your choice of chili, chipotle, cayenne, or paprika peppers
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp dried chili flakes

Mix all ingredients in a shallow pan and allow to marinate for at least an hour.

If you're grilling, cook as usual, allow meat to rest for 15 minutes to redistribute the juices. Then slice into chunks when done.

If pan-frying, cook meat on medium-high heat until seared. Allow meat to rest for 15 minutes before slicing into chunks. Then put meat back into pan with the juices for additional flavor.

Top with salsa, cheese, and jalapenos. Squeeze some extra limes if you wish, or add cilantro and avocado.
Pop a tortilla in the microwave for about 15 seconds to warm it up, add carne asada and toppings.

Or you can make carne asada nachos.

Haha Kirk,
That's b/c you haven't tasted it yet. My littler sister says my photos make everything look appetizing. :)

I like your cooking posts too. Seriously, you should do it more often.

Tania,
I made some at one of the parties didn't I? I didn't make the salsa this time. Too lazy. But wait until summer and I'll make my mango salsa again. :) And why is your stomach rumbling? Isn't your brother feeding you?
