Tip Top Mart - San Gabriel

Gourmet Pigs and I made plans to watch the last Harry Potter film together. So sad. *Sniffle.* She bought the tickets; I paid for dinner. She had recently tried some of my leftover potstickers from Luscious Dumplings Inc. - San Gabriel and really liked them, even cold. And when I found out she had not been before, I had to to take her. Mmm. Beef brisket noodles and potstickers.

After dinner, we went next door to Tip Top Mart so she could grab some Indonesian ramen.

Tip Top Mart opened some time last year? I remember noticing when it had replaced the previous business and telling GP since I always tell her when I come across a new Indonesian place. But I didn't really have a reason to stop in until now.

Assortment of Indonesian imported packaged foods.

Nutmeg. Is it the same kind of nutmeg as in the spice? And you can eat it green? I mean like in a more raw state than the spice? I've also tried snakehead before.

I think the main purpose of these small grocery stores is the selection of spice mixes and other pastes so you can make such food at home when you have a craving.

Indonesian shrimp chips.

On the way out, I noticed a table with boxed Indonesian desserts. Normally there are also rice plates and other ready-made prepared meals, but it was late in the day so all the rice dishes were long gone.

Anyway, this was more of an FYI for my handful of Indonesian readers. In case you wanted more of a selection of packaged goods than what is available at your local store or got hungry and wanted some ready-made food.

  1. I saw Indonesian style mortar and pestle for sale on one of your pictures :)

It seems those candlenuts packages are all the same for entire North America. I got the same as well.

  2. Pepy,
Funny. When I bought my big mortar and pestle, just from Marshall's mind you, the Indonesian cashier asked if there were extra for his mom and wife too. I bought a bag of candlenuts but bugs got into it before I even used it. So I had to throw it away.
