I don't watch football, and don't generally go to Super Bowl parties, so when asked for ideas, I default to my Sriracha Buffalo Wings recipe and call it a day.
But with the Seahawks playing the Broncos, I actually had an idea for the Seattle snack -- hot dogs with cream cheese. Oldest nephew and his best friend, who both went to college in Seattle, introduced the dish to me several years ago during a Memorial Day barbecue.
I admit, the thought of adding cream cheese to my hot dog was weird to me so I didn't try it then. I did now though and thought the creaminess of the cheese paired well with the grilled meat. Huh! Who would have thought?
So that left me brainstorming for what to do for a Denver-based snack. What food is Denver known for? Rocky Mountain oysters? Heh heh. Obviously, I went with a Denver Omelet Sandwich.
Which would you rather eat? Yeah, I meant to blog this before the game, but the outcome of my culinary NFL was the same as the real game -- Seattle all the way.
Seattle Hot Dog with Cream Cheese
You'll need:
Hot dogs
Buns
Cream cheese
Optional: Grilled onions, mustard, jalapenos, Sriracha, or barbecue sauce or popular add-ons.
It's a hot dog! Toast the bun. Grill the hot dog. Add anything you wish, the only requirement is some cream cheese. Seattle hot dog vendors have squeeze bottles to squirt the cream cheese. I just went with slicing lengthwise.
In hindsight, I realized I also forgot the drizzle of Sriracha, which would have added so much more flavor to the final product, as well as color for my picture. Next time!
Denver Omelet Sandwich
For 2 sandwiches, you'll need:
4 slices bread, toasted
3 eggs
2 tsp milk
Pinch of salt
Pinch of ground black pepper
1/2 medium onion, diced
1/2 cup ham, diced
1/2 green bell pepper, diced
1/4 cup cheddar cheese
Toast the bread. Scramble the eggs in a bowl. I add just a few teaspoons of milk to my scrambled eggs to make them fluffier. Add a pinch of salt and ground black pepper and beat the eggs. Set aside.
Dice the onion, ham, and green bell pepper. In a saucepan on medium high heat, drizzle a bit of oil and add the diced onion first. When the onion starts softening, add the ham and bell pepper.
Turn the heat down to medium-low and add the eggs.
Cover the pan and in a few minutes, the eggs should start setting.
Add the shredded cheese and cover the pan again. In less than a minute, when the cheese melts, turn off the heat and flip the omelet in half.
Pretty colors!
In a regular Denver omelet, I like to add the ingredients just to the middle of the eggs, but as a sandwich, I like seeing the colors of the ham and green bell pepper with the eggs.

I love the colours in the omelette so I'd pick the omelette - just minus the ham :-)
