Before all these blogger dinners sponsored by public relations companies, the only dinner I had gone to was sponsored by my advertiser, FoodBuzz. This was back in August 2008. And except for meeting up with a group of Orange County food bloggers in early 2007 at Vien Dong Restaurant - Garden Grove, I hadn't actually met up with any other large group of bloggers. My how the landscape of foodblogging has changed since then.
Anyway, even though Blanca in Newport Beach is now closed, the area is still worth a visit if you want to check out the yachts or grab a gondola ride around the harbor.
The aforementioned gondola. I imagine all the chairs in the boat to the left were set up for a wedding?
Picnic basket? Romantic evening gondola ride around Newport harbor?
Tables set up for our dinner.
I love string lights over a patio.
Lots and lots of party boats.
Bread plate.
My first introduction to molecular gastronomy. It was a sphere of lemony goodness that popped in my mouth. Sort of like a liquid lemondrop.
Asparagus salad, burrata cheese, toasted hazelnuts, arugula, and truffle vinaigrette.
Roasted dover sole, Tuscan white beans, Spanish chorizo, market carrots, and parsley espuma.
I met Ila of I Nom Things at this dinner and she shared her roasted flank steak, whole roasted garlic, Taleggio cheese potatoes, red wine reduction, and herb salad.
Manjari "Grand Cru" chocolate decadence, salted caramel ice cream, coffee chips, Spanish almonds.
The food was actually pretty good. Too bad the restaurant closed.
Look at the freebies I got from my advertiser.
Nice, eh?
