My Second-Youngest Uncle's Com Ga Hai Nam (Hainanese Chicken Rice)
I was feeling lazy and didn't want to cook, nor did I want to go out to eat. Man, living near family is so great. My cousin said she was bringing her baby to her parents' house, so I went over to my second-youngest uncle's house to play. And I got fed too. :)
My cousin made me up a plate and said people who have never had homemade com ga Hai Nam (Hainanese chicken rice) just don't know how good it can really be. I agreed. But then I've said this before. :)

It's nice to let someone else do the cooking (and the washing) sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYich,
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes, I'm just not up to even making a salad or a bowl of cereal. It's nice that I have so many good cooks in my family.
i tried hainanese chicken for the first time last week on a trip to vancouver and it was delicious! do you have any recipes you would recommend?
ReplyDeleteOh god yes. I love this dish, and it's better homemade. Indonesians have a version called Nasi Tim, same idea, same taste of home.
ReplyDeleteWhat's that green stuff in the picture? Kang kung?
Hey WC - Your family get togethers must be some kinda feast!
ReplyDeleteHi anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI'll get around to making it myself one of these days. You can read my Gabbi's posting for the methods involved. So when you search for a recipe, it should include all of that. Otherwise, you're not gonna get the right flavor and texture.
Elmo,
I never knew that. I'll keep it in mind if I ever go to an Indonesian restaurant.
And the green stuff is rau ram (Vietnamese coriander). Good with poultry and fish.
Kirk,
They are. We stuff ourselves silly. :)
I just made hainanese chicken rice the other day! We're totally making or eating the same foods almost at the same time! :D
ReplyDeleteAmy,
ReplyDeleteHaha. This is the third time then. Keep it up and you'll be synchronized with me and Tigerfish. Hmm, is there an Olympic category for synchronized eating? :P
