After leaving The Last Bookstore - Los Angeles, we headed up Bunker Hill to Angel's Knoll. Otherwise known as Angelus Plaza (no idea why they called it thus in the movie) or the park with Tom's bench in "(500) Days of Summer."
There used to be a plaque on the back of the bench commemorating the movie, but I guess someone stole it. You can just barely see someone sleeping to the right of the bench, so we wandered around the park to other benches to take pictures, but it just wasn't the same. This really was the best bench for views!
We saw these two girls making their way to the bench (the one on the left was blindfolded). No idea if visiting Tom's bench was a special surprise. We didn't ask, even though it turned out one of the girls knew one of my students.
Angel's Flight railway, moving people up and down Bunker Hill, opened at this location in 1996. The original location connecting Hill and Olive Streets opened in 1901.

Angel's Flight from below. It's quite a steep hill. If I were wearing heels, it would totally be worth the 50 cents to ride up.
Grand Central Market - Los Angeles is at the bottom of the hill.
We did quick walk-throughs for fast pictures at Olvera Street, the Mexican area of downtown. I hadn't been in years. I'll have to go back and take pictures and visit the historic home for the blog.
Across the street was Union Station, which made for some nice pictures too.

What a lovely post! I definitely want to hit up those spots for a future road trip. I've only been to the train station once,back in college.

ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to go back to check out the Bradbury building for the lovely architecture. That's the building where he meets Autumn in the movie. I didn't know it was across the street from Grand Central Market! So close! The Last Bookstore is within blocks too.
Unfortunately, as of August, Angel's Knoll is fenced off. :( I'm glad I was able to see it when I did. Angel's Flight is still open though.
