Mom's Geoduck, Dynamite-Style and Chao Oc (Vietnamese Rice Porridge with Clams)

After buying books at Powell's, lil' sis and I headed home for dinner with our parents. What a long day. You realize that it was only the third full day we were home? We really crammed a lot into our short time at home.

My parents go digging for geoduck and razor clams every summer on the Oregon coast.

So my mom seasoned the geoduck, added some mayonnaise and cheese so it'd be like Japanese dynamite scallops, and we grilled them at the table.

While we waited for the clams to be done, we ate Chao Oc (Vietnamese Rice Porridge with Clams).

Finally done!

Slurp. Slurp.

So good!

That's why I always make it a point to come home for dinner when I'm in town. That and to spend time with my parents. :)

  2. Ok Now, you're making me hungry in the middle of the night. I should try this. Geoduck is pretty expensive here.

  3. Oh wow. Clams and geoducks and Powells - surefire combination to make me drool! The chao oc looks -very- good (and more doable. I'm not sure I even know where to get geoducks for sale here.) Maybe I'll plunder the Chinese herbal store for half-dried oysters!

  4. Kirbie,
    I love all bivalves! :)

    Andi,
    Mmm.

    Indonesia Eats,
It's expensive in SoCal too, $13/lb. I only eat a lot because I get them free from my parents.

    Shuku,
I love clams, but I'd have to rank Powell's above them. :P You can definitely use oysters for the rice porridge. Not sure how dried ones would taste reconstituted though.
