Tres Generaciones Tequila Tasting (W Hotel) - Los Angeles (Westwood)

I don't drink that often these days so drinking events aren't usually on my radar. But, when Matt of Dig Lounge, courtesy of Jennifer Grunstad of the Zocalo Group, sent me an invite for molecular cocktails with light appetizers held at a poolside cabana at the W Hotel in Westwood? And my valet parking was covered too? It was enough to convince me to drive to the westside.

Tres Generaciones, which means three generations in Spanish, is named after Don Cenobio, Don Eladio, and Don Francisco Javier Sauza, the three heads of the Sauza family. The tequila is 100% Weber blue agave. Don Cenobio created his Sauza tequila in 1873, his son and grandson followed in his footsteps in leading the family company.

To best showcase the three types of tequila, three drinks were made for the occasion:

LA Love, Tres Generaciones Reposado, basil, Granny Smith apple, fig, orange marmalade, and vanilla.

Obama-Rita, Tres Generaciones Plata, brandy, lime, fresh lemon sour, and Triple Sec.

Bells Will Be Ringing, Tres Generaciones Anejo, ginger, fig, fresh orange juice, and vanilla.

As far as tequila goes, and I'm far from a connoisseur, I thought they were all strong and smooth. A mite too strong for me since I was driving so I limited myself to one.

Can't beat drinking tequila by the pool at the W Hotel.

We were also treated to appetizers such as steak bites.

And shrimp and olives on skewers. What's going on in the background?

It's a clothing exchange party. A bunch of women brought old clothes they didn't want anymore to exchange with other women.

Sort of a free way to update your closet. Unfortunately, several of the bloggers who attended both events, said it was disorganized and those who brought nice clothes weren't necessarily able to get something of similar value in return.

Since the event was supposed to feature molecular cocktails, I was curious to see what Eddie Perales, Tres Generaciones Tequila Brand Ambassador, would cook up for us.

Raspberries and chocolate.

Basically an alcoholic hot chocolate with hints of raspberries and mint. Hmm. Not quite what I imagined when the words "molecular cocktails" were mentioned.

Nevertheless, hanging out with some blog friends while dining on appetizers with drinks by the pool, was what I came for.
