Le Croissant Dore - Westminster (Little Saigon)

Gorgeous isn't it?
Here's another angle. This thing was huge.

Reminds me of geometry. Actually, reminds me of this old, old computer program in the mid-1980s that had geometry shapes and we could "color" them in on the screen. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Did I just reveal how old I am? :P

The occasion was lil' sis's birthday. We've reached the point where we don't really buy each other presents anymore. I mean, there's only so many things we need, and we're out of space. So a nice dinner is the usual way we celebrate these days. But this kind of present, well, this kind of present is something lil' sis soundly endorses.

The custard is a nice thin layer so it doesn't make the crust soggy. After several days in the fridge, the crust was still flaky, crispy. This easily fed 8 of us, with leftovers for days.

Oh, yeah, you want to know where to get this lovely fruit tart? It's at Le Croissant Dore in Westminster.

Here's the inside of the bakery painted with a French scene.

They make other pastries too.

But who are you kidding, you're getting that fruit tart right? If you don't see it out on display, just ask. It's the bakery's signature item and they've got plenty in back. $20, tax included. Easily feeds a dozen people.

Elmo of Monster Munching also loves the fruit tart.

  3. That looks so good. Is there any kind of syrup drizzled on there? Or is it just straight up fruit and custard?

  4. I thought you made the tart yourself. Cos it's so generous with all the fruits! And it's a huge tart. A tart or a cake? :P

  6. YUM!! This is the only place we go for fruit tarts.

Oh man, I just spent half a minute reminiscing about the last time I've had a piece of their fruit tart. I had my chin in the palms of my hands and I gazed into space while my mouth was salivating! Sheesh!

  10. Tania,
It would have been weeks before you were down again so the tart would have gone bad by then.

    Elmo,
    Hehe. :)

    Marvin,
It's just pastry, custard, fruit, and a light glaze. Not too sweet at all, which is why I like it.

    Tigerfish,
Definitely a tart. And I've never tried making one of these before!

    Vegasbuff,
Let me know how you like it!

    Christine,
I was trying to remember if your butcher knife-wielding ba noi was using it on this tart or if it was from somewhere else. :)

    Amy,
    Cute, no?

    CP,
Ah, yes, I've heard this is quite the place for breafast.

    Ironeaters,
I can keep looking back at it and seeing new geometry figures. :)

  12. Jeannie,
This place has been around for years. And even before food blogging, word-of-mouth was always the way to discover good eats. :)
